Christmas Cruise (2021) on Royal Caribbean Independence of the Seas

Highlights from our christmas getaway cruise to the Bahamas – Perfect Day at Coco Cay and Nassau while following Covid19 protocols.

Covid Protocols for Cruising:

We had to get tested prior the cruise, Rapid test if you are vaccinated, PCR if you are not vaccinated. You also have to get tested at the cruise port prior to boarding if you are not vaccinated. They checked for Negative test results and vaccination cards a few different times before boarding.
We had to be masked indoors while onboard the Independence of the Seas unless you are eating and/or drinking. No masks required outdoors. Ship was at about 80% capacity and people were following protocols for the most part so we felt pretty comfortable onboard.

Note: Kids club had limited hours that can be scheduled however, we were able make use of it when needed.

Ports of Call:

Coco Cay (Royal Caribbean’s Private Island)
We thoroughly enjoyed our day on Chill island @ Coco Cay.  We did not pay for or explore the Thrill island side since we wanted to have a relaxing beach day.  This is a great stop on any cruise to enjoy the various parts of the island as it seems to have something for everyone!

Nassau, Bahamas
We have been to Nassau many times and have pretty much done the basic excursions hence, didn’t book anything there.  Instead we just walked around in Nassau by the port to the Straw market (which is indoors now!), Senor Frogs etc. as we have been there many times.  We had the option to walk to the nearby (Junkanoo) beach but, didn’t really have the time to do so this time.
Key point to note in Nassau is that the ongoing port construction and a bit of long walk to get out of the port.

Note: If you are unvaccinated and you want to get off at the port then you need to book an excursion with the Royal Caribbean. However, at Coco Cay everyone is able get off and enjoy the island regardless of vaccination status.

Overall, it was a good short cruise. Feel free to hit us up with any questions for your next trip or cruise!
