Road trip to Atlanta, GA

We decided to take a road trip to Atlanta, GA for two days with the parents and in-laws to escape the wrath of Hurricane Irma.  We didn't really have many activities planned due to the last minute nature of the trip however, here are some of the highlights.

Doubletree by Hilton Atlanta DowntownLocated within walkable distance from the Peachtree Center, Georgia Aquarium, Centennial Olympic Park & SkyView Atlanta.  We chose this hotel due to the close proximity to the main attractions and it served us well as it was indeed centrally located to the main attractions.

Tip:  If you are able to get a reasonably priced room at the Westin across the street, go for it as it has much more to offer from an amenities perspective.

Peachtree Center Mall - Peachtree Center's three-tiered retail mall is located in the heart of Atlanta at the corner of Peachtree Street and International Boulevard. Enjoy convenient food choices of nearly every variety from popular eateries like Chick-fil-A and Benihana to Au Bon Pain and Caribou Coffee.

Georgia Aquarium - The Georgia Aquarium is a public aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. It houses more than a hundred thousand animals and represents several thousand species, all of which reside in 10 million US gallons of marine and salt water.

We enjoyed our visit to the Georgia Aquarium during a quick 2 day trip to Atlanta to escape the wrath of Irma. We have been to several aquariums throughout the US but, this one stood out mainly due to the entertaining dolphin show! Additionally, we did enjoy the different sections of the aquarium and the interactive areas for the kids. The only negative was that the entire state of Florida was there! We would definitely recommend it to our family and friends. Tip: Purchase your tickets online for the discounts they offer.

Centennial Olympic Park - The Park is a 21-acre public park located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia owned and operated by the Georgia World Congress Center Authority.

SkyView Atlanta – 20 story Ferris wheel in Centennial Park providing scenic views from climate-controlled gondolas.

Corner Bakery - Casual, counter-serve cafe chain offering a standard menu of sandwiches, pasta & pastries.

Tip: Closed on Sundays 🙁

Max Lager’s Wood-Fired Grill & Brewery - This grill & brewery housed in a 1913 building combines handcrafted beers with wood-fired meats.

Tip: Try a beer flight!

Alma Cocina - Inventive Mexican fare with regional influences & Latin-inspired cocktails in a stylish setting.
